About

Kick the Styx is a 3D first-person melee game made in Unity for Bradley University's Game Production II course. You play as Guh, a satyr who fell into the the river Styx while defending the entrance to the underworld. He is tasked with finding a way out all while defending his ship from the souls that wish to keep him trapped with them.

I was the lead programmer over the course of this project, in which I was in charge with arranging meetings between, checking in with, and divvying tasks among two other programmers and myself. This required that I utilize Trello and other methods of communication in order to keep us all on track. I took on quite a few tasks myself, such as fine-tuning the game's grappling hook and other mechanics as well as programming in the entirety of the environmental hazards that pop up per wave.

Kick the Styx was developed over the course of a semester, and over the course of that semester, I had taught myself the ins and outs of both Unity 3D and GitHub. I have since been more confident than ever in my problem-solving skills as well as my ability to track down and resolve bugs. Similarly, leading my fellow programmers had taught me much in terms of task distribution and time management. I consider Kick the Styx to have been a turning point for myself and regard my work on the project proudly.
